- Definition:
The length of time during and after treatment that a patient lives with the disease without it getting worse (progressing). - Use:
PFS is a common clinical trial endpoint to measure how effective a treatment is at delaying tumor growth or spread. - How it’s measured:
From the start of treatment until either:- Disease progression (confirmed by imaging or clinical assessment), or
- Death from any cause (whichever occurs first).
- Clinical significance:
A longer PFS indicates the treatment is helping control cancer longer.
