- Class: Cytokine immunotherapy
- Mechanism: Stimulates proliferation and activation of T cells and NK cells
- Indications:
- Historically used for metastatic RCC and melanoma (now less common due to newer agents)
- Dose:
- IV bolus dosing (e.g., 600,000 IU/kg every 8 hours up to 14 doses per cycle)
- Requires inpatient administration due to toxicity
- Key Toxicities:
- Capillary leak syndrome → hypotension, edema, organ dysfunction
- Renal dysfunction, arrhythmias, mental status changes
- Requires ICU-level monitoring
- Monitoring:
- Cardiac, renal, fluid balance, infection signs, mental status
- Supportive care critical
